Musnad of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (RA)

Hadith 8:142

Yazid narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa’d informed us, and Hashim ibn al-Qasim, Ibrahim ibn Sa’d narrated to us, from Salih ibn Kaysan—Hashim said in his narration: He said: Salih ibn Kaysan narrated to me—and Yazid said from Salih, from al-Zuhri, from ‘Abd al-Hamid ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, from Muhammad ibn Sa’d, from his father, who said: ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab entered upon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while there were women of Quraysh with him, asking him and demanding more, raising their voices. When they heard the voice of ‘Umar, they retreated and fell silent. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, laughed. ‘Umar said: "O enemies of your own selves, you fear me and do not fear the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?" They said: "You are harsher and more stern than the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "O ‘Umar, the Shaytan has never met you traveling on a path, but that he would take a path other than your path."
