Musnad Ahmad 8:143

Yazid narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'd informed us, from Muhammad ibn 'Ikrimah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn Hisham, from Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Labibah, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, from Sa'd ibn Malik, who said: "We used to lease land during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for what was on the water channels of the crops, and for what was watered by the water from them. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade us from that, and permitted us—or granted us a concession—to lease it for gold and silver."
