Hadith 8:185
Abu Dawud Sulayman narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa’d narrated to us, from Salih ibn Kaysan, Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Hamid ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, from Muhammad ibn Sa’d, from his father, who said: ‘Umar sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and there were women with him whose voices were raised above his voice. When he gave him permission, they hurried and left. ‘Umar entered while the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was laughing. ‘Umar said: "May Allah make your teeth laugh, O Messenger of Allah. May my father and mother be sacrificed for you." He said: "I am amazed at the women who were with me; when they heard your voice, they hurried and left." ‘Umar turned to them and said: "O enemies of your own selves! By Allah, you fear me more than you fear the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)?" The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Leave them be, O ‘Umar. For by Allah, if Satan were to meet you on a path, he would surely take a path other than your path."
