Musnad of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (RA)
Hadith 8:79
Ya'la and Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us. Yahya said: A man—whom I used to name but have forgotten his name—narrated to me, from 'Umar ibn Sa'd, who said: I had a need to present to my father. He said: And Abu Hayyan narrated to us, from Mujammi', who said: 'Umar ibn Sa'd had a need to present to his father, so he preceded his need with speech of the kind that people use to reach their goals, which he [his father] had not heard before. When he finished, he said: "O my son, have you finished your speech?" He said: "Yes." He said: "I have never been further from your need, nor have I been more indifferent toward you, than I have been since I heard this speech of yours. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'There will be a people who eat with their tongues just as cattle eat from the earth.'"
