Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, Abu Aqil—meaning al-Thaqafi—narrated to us, Mujalid ibn Sa’id narrated to us, from ‘Amir, from Masruq, from ‘Aishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told his wives a story one night. One of the women among them said: "O Messenger of Allah, was the story a 'Khurafa' (fable/myth)?" He said: "Do you know what 'Khurafa' is? Indeed, Khurafa was a man from the tribe of ‘Udhrah whom the Jinn captured during the Pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyyah). He remained among them for a long time, then they returned him to the humans. He used to tell the people about the wonders he saw among them, so the people said: 'A Khurafa story.'" My father said: This Abu Aqil is trustworthy; his name is Abdullah ibn Aqil al-Thaqafi.
