Musnad Ahmad 1153:1403

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn al-Muntashir, from his father: That he asked Ibn ‘Umar about a man who applies perfume when he enters into Ihram. He said: "For me to be smeared with tar is more beloved to me than that I should do that." He said: So my father asked ‘Aishah and informed her of Ibn ‘Umar’s statement. She said: "May Allah have mercy on Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman. I used to perfume the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then he would go around to his wives, then he would wake up in the morning in a state of Ihram, with the scent of perfume still lingering on him."
