Musnad Ahmad 1153:1415

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, he said: Shu‘bah narrated to us; and Hajjaj said: Shu‘bah informed us, from Sa‘d ibn Ibrahim; and Rawh said: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Sa‘d, he said: I heard ‘Urwah ibn al-Zubayr narrating from ‘Aishah, that she said: I used to hear that a prophet would not die until he was given the choice between the world and the Hereafter. She said: So I heard the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, during his illness in which he died—and a hoarseness had taken him—saying: "{With those upon whom Allah has bestowed favor, among the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs, and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions}" [An-Nisa: 69]. She said: So I thought that he was being given the choice at that time. Rawh said: That he was given the choice between the world and the Hereafter.
