Musnad Ahmad 1153:1434

I read to Abd al-Rahman: Malik, and Ishaq ibn Isa narrated to us, Malik informed me, from Rabi’ah ibn Abd al-Rahman, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from Aisha, that she said: There were three Sunnahs regarding Barirah. One of the three Sunnahs was that she was emancipated, and she was given the choice regarding her husband. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said regarding her: "Al-wala' (the right of inheritance) belongs to the one who emancipated." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, entered while a pot was boiling with meat. Bread and some of the house's condiment were brought near to him. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Did I not see a pot containing meat?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, but that is meat that was given as charity to Barirah, and you do not eat charity." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "It is charity for her, and it is a gift for us."
