'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from al-Zuhri; and Abu Kamil said: Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from 'Amrah, from 'Aishah, who said: Umm Habibah bint Jahsh—Abu Kamil said: Umm Habib—came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and she had been experiencing *istihadah* (prolonged non-menstrual bleeding) for seven years. She complained of that to him and sought his religious ruling regarding it. He said: "This is not the menstruation, but rather this is a vein (ruptured), so perform ghusl and pray." She used to perform ghusl for every prayer and pray. She would sit in a tub, and the redness of the blood would rise to the surface of the water, then she would pray.
