'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from al-Aswad ibn Shayban, from Abu Nawfal, who said: I asked 'Aisha, "Was poetry recited in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?" She said, "It was the most hateful of speech to him."
