Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us—Yahya said: Hisham dictated it to me—he said: My father informed me, he said: 'Aisha informed me, she said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, coinciding with the new moon of Dhu al-Hijjah. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Whoever wishes to enter into the state of ihram for an 'Umrah, let him do so, and whoever wishes to enter into the state of ihram for a Hajj, let him do so. Were it not that I brought a sacrificial animal, I would have entered into the state of ihram for an 'Umrah." She said: So some of them entered into the state of ihram for an 'Umrah, and some of them entered into the state of ihram for a Hajj. I was among those who entered into the state of ihram for an 'Umrah, but I menstruated before I entered Makkah. The day of 'Arafah overtook me while I was menstruating, so I complained of that to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: "Leave your 'Umrah, undo your hair, comb it, and enter into the state of ihram for Hajj." So I did. When it was the night of al-Hasbah, he sent 'Abd al-Rahman with me to al-Tan'im. He let her ride behind him, and she entered into the state of ihram for an 'Umrah in place of her 'Umrah. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, fulfilled her Hajj and her 'Umrah, and there was no sacrificial animal, nor fasting, nor charity in any of that.
