Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Malik ibn Mighwal narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa’id ibn Wahb al-Hamdani, from ‘Aishah, she said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, 'Those who give what they give while their hearts are fearful'—is he the man who commits adultery, steals, and drinks alcohol?" He said: "No, O daughter of Abu Bakr"—or "No, O daughter of al-Siddiq"—"but rather, he is the man who fasts, prays, and gives charity, while he fears that it will not be accepted from him."
