Musnad Ahmad 1153:178

Abu Mu’awiyah narrated to us, he said: Hisham ibn ‘Urwah narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim, from his father, from ‘Aishah, who said: There were three rulings regarding Barirah. Her people wanted to sell her and stipulate the right of inheritance (al-wala’), so she mentioned that to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He said: "Buy her and emancipate her, for the right of inheritance belongs only to the one who emancipates." She said: And she was emancipated, then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave her the choice, and she chose herself. She said: And the people used to give charity to her, and she would give it to us as a gift. She mentioned that to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he said: "It is charity for her, and it is a gift for you, so eat it."
