Musnad Ahmad 1153:2089

'Uthman narrated to us, he said: Yunus informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salamah, that 'Aishah said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was commanded to give his wives the choice, he began with me. He said: "O 'Aishah, I am mentioning a matter to you, and there is no harm upon you if you do not hasten until you consult your parents." She said: And he knew that my parents would not order me to separate from him. Then he said: "Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: {O Prophet, say to your wives, if you desire the worldly life and its adornment...} [Al-Ahzab: 28] until he reached: {...Allah has prepared for the doers of good among you a great reward} [Al-Ahzab: 29]." I said: Regarding which of this should I consult my parents? For I have chosen Allah, His Messenger, and the Home of the Hereafter. She said: Then the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did as I did.
