Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, he said: Hisham ibn 'Urwah narrated to me, from his father, from 'Aishah, she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) bought a camel—or camels—from a Bedouin man for a wasq of *dhukhrah* dates, and *dhukhrah* dates are *'ajwah*. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned with it to his house, then he sought the dates for him, but did not find them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out to him and said: "O servant of Allah, we bought from you a camel—or camels—for a wasq of *dhukhrah* dates, and we sought them but did not find them." She said: The Bedouin said: "Oh, the treachery!" She said: The people rebuked him and said: "May Allah kill you! Does the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commit treachery?" She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Leave him, for the one who has a right has a statement." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned to him and said: "O servant of Allah, we bought your camels from you while we thought that we had what we named for you, but we sought it and did not find it." The Bedouin said: "Oh, the treachery!" The people rebuked him and said: "May Allah kill you! Does the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commit treachery?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Leave him, for the one who has a right has a statement." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) repeated that two or three times. When he saw that he did not understand him, he said to a man among his companions: "Go to Khuwaylah bint Hakim ibn Umayyah and say to her: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) says to you: If you have a wasq of *dhukhrah* dates, lend it to us until we pay it back to you, if Allah wills.'" The man went to her, then the man returned and said: "She said: 'Yes, it is with me, O Messenger of Allah, so send someone to take possession of it.'" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the man: "Go with him and pay him what is due to him." She said: So he went with him and paid him what was due to him. She said: The Bedouin passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was sitting among his companions, and he said: "May Allah reward you with good, for you have paid in full and acted kindly." She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Those are the best of the servants of Allah in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection: those who pay in full and act kindly."
