Musnad Ahmad 1153:441

Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, Kathir ibn Zayd narrated to us, from al-Muttalib ibn Abdullah, who said: Aisha said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say: "There is no prophet except that his soul is taken, then he is shown his reward, then it is returned to him, and he is given the choice between being returned [to life] or joining [the afterlife]." I had memorized that from him. When he was leaning against my chest, I looked at him until his neck tilted, and I said: "He has passed away." She said: Then I realized what he had said. I looked at him until he was raised, and he looked up. She said: I said: "Then, by Allah, he will not choose us." He then said: "With the Highest Companion in Paradise, {with those upon whom Allah has bestowed favor among the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth...}" [An-Nisa: 69] until the end of the verse.
