Musnad Ahmad 1153:463

Ibrahim ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from ‘Asim; and ‘Ali ibn Ishaq said: ‘Abdullah informed us, he said: ‘Asim informed us, from Mu‘adhah, from ‘Aishah: "That the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to ask for permission when it was the day of one of us, after this verse was revealed: 'You may defer whom you will of them and take to yourself whom you will, and whomsoever you desire of those whom you have set aside, there is no blame on you' [Al-Ahzab: 51]." She said: So I said to her: "What would you say to him?" She said: "I would say to him: 'If that is up to me, then I do not want to prefer anyone over you.'"
