Surayj narrated to us, Ibn Abi al-Zinad narrated to us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith, from Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr, from Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, that Aisha said: The reinforcements of the Arabs increased upon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, until they overwhelmed him. The Emigrants stood up to clear them away from him, until he stood at the threshold of Aisha’s [room], and they crowded him. He let go of his cloak into their hands, leaped onto the threshold, entered, and said: "O Allah, curse them." Aisha said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people are ruined." He said: "Nay, by Allah, O daughter of Abu Bakr, I have stipulated a condition with my Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, which will not be broken. I said: 'I am only a human being; I become distressed just as a human being becomes distressed. So, whichever of the believers I have directed a harsh word toward, make it an expiation for him.'"
