Musnad Ahmad 1153:810

Ibrahim ibn Abi al-Abbas narrated to us, he said: Abu Uways narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim ibn Abdullah ibn Umar, that Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq informed Abdullah ibn Umar, from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do you not see that your people, when they built the Kaaba, fell short of the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)?" She said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, will you not restore it to the foundations of Ibrahim?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Were it not for the recentness of your people's disbelief." Abdullah ibn Umar said: "By Allah, if Aisha heard that from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I do not think the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refrained from touching the two corners that are adjacent to the Hijr, except because the House was not completed upon the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), intending that the people encompass the circumambulation of the entire House from behind the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)."
