'Affan narrated to us, he said: Sulaym ibn Akhdar narrated to me, he said: Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, he said: 'Ali ibn Zayd narrated to me, from Umm Muhammad, the wife of his father, from 'A'ishah, she said: Umm Salamah was with us, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came at the edge of the night. She said: She mentioned something he had done with his hand. She said: And he began not to notice Umm Salamah. She said: And I began to gesture to him until he noticed. Umm Salamah said: "Is it like this now? Was there not one of us with you, except in deception as I see?" And she insulted 'A'ishah. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, began to forbid her, but she refused. So the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Insult her." So she insulted her until she overcame her. Umm Salamah went to 'Ali and Fatimah and said: "'A'ishah insulted me, and she said to you [plural], and she said to you [plural]." 'Ali said to Fatimah: "Go to him and say: 'A'ishah said to us such and such, and said to us such and such.'" So she came to him and mentioned that to him. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to her: "She is the beloved of your father, by the Lord of the Ka'bah." She returned to 'Ali and mentioned to him what he had said to her. He said: "Is it not enough for you that 'A'ishah said to us such and such, and said to us such and such, until Fatimah came to you, and you said to her: 'She is the beloved of your father, by the Lord of the Ka'bah'?"
