Musnad Ahmad 2:222

Yazid narrated to us, Al-Awwam informed us, a sheikh who was stationed at the coast narrated to me, saying: I met Abu Salih, the freed slave of Umar ibn al-Khattab, and he said: Umar ibn al-Khattab narrated to us, from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he said: "There is no night except that the sea overlooks the earth three times in it, seeking permission from Allah to burst forth upon them, but Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, restrains it."
