Yazid narrated to us, Dailam bin Ghazwan al-Abdi informed us, Maimun al-Kurdi narrated to us, from Abu Uthman al-Nahdi, who said: I was sitting under the pulpit of Umar while he was addressing the people, and he said in his sermon: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "Indeed, the thing I fear most for this nation is every hypocrite who is eloquent of tongue." *** Rawh narrated to us, Malik narrated to us (and in another chain) Ishaq narrated to us, Malik informed me. Abu Abd al-Rahman Abdullah bin Ahmad said: And Mus'ab al-Zubayri narrated to us, Malik narrated to me, from Zayd bin Abi Unaysah, that Abd al-Hamid bin Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd bin al-Khattab informed him, from Muslim bin Yasar al-Juhani: That Umar bin al-Khattab was asked about this verse: "And when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants" [Al-A'raf: 172]. Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, being asked about it, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah created Adam, then He wiped his back with His right hand and extracted from it descendants. He said: 'I created these for Paradise, and they will perform the deeds of the people of Paradise.' Then He wiped his back and extracted from it descendants. He said: 'I created these for the Fire, and they will perform the deeds of the people of the Fire.'" A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, then what is the purpose of deeds?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Indeed, when Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, creates a servant for Paradise, He employs him in the deeds of the people of Paradise until he dies upon one of the deeds of the people of Paradise, and He enters him into Paradise thereby. And when He creates a servant for the Fire, He employs him in the deeds of the people of the Fire until he dies upon one of the deeds of the people of the Fire, and He enters him into the Fire thereby."
