Musnad Ahmad 2:230

Rawh narrated to us, Malik ibn Anas narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn Abdullah ibn Umar, from his father: That a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) entered the mosque on the day of Friday, while Umar ibn al-Khattab was standing and delivering the sermon. Umar said: "What time is this?" He said: "O Commander of the Faithful, I returned from the market and heard the call, so I did nothing more than perform ablution and came." Umar said: "And the ablution as well! While you have known that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to command us to perform ghusl (full ritual washing)."
