Hadith 2:249
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Utbah ibn Mas'ud, from Ibn 'Abbas, from 'Umar, that he said: "Indeed, Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, sent Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with the truth, and He revealed the Book with him. Among what was revealed to him was the verse of stoning. So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stoned, and we stoned after him." Then he said: "We used to recite: 'Do not turn away from your fathers, for it is disbelief in you'—or: 'it is a disbelief in you—that you turn away from your fathers.'" Then the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Do not exaggerate in praising me as the son of Maryam was exaggerated in praising. I am only a servant, so say: 'His servant and His Messenger.'" And perhaps Ma'mar said: "As the Christians exaggerated in praising the son of Maryam."
