Hadith 2:292

Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Alqamah ibn Marthad, from Sulayman ibn Buraydah, from Ibn Ya'mar, who said: I said to Ibn Umar: "We travel in the horizons, and we meet people who say: 'There is no Qadar (divine decree).'" Ibn Umar said: "If you meet them, inform them that Abdullah ibn Umar is innocent of them, and they are innocent of him"—three times. Then he began to narrate: "While we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), a man came—and he mentioned his appearance—and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Come closer.' So he came closer. He said: 'Come closer.' So he came closer. He said: 'Come closer.' So he came closer, until his knees almost touched his knees. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, inform me what is Iman (faith)?'—or about Iman. He said: 'To believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in the Qadar.' Sufyan said: 'I think he said: its good and its evil.' He said: 'Then what is Islam?' He said: 'Establishing the prayer, giving the Zakat, performing Hajj to the House, fasting the month of Ramadan, and performing Ghusl (ritual washing) from Janabah (major ritual impurity).' For all of that, he said: 'You have spoken the truth, you have spoken the truth.' The people said: 'We have never seen a man more respectful to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than this one; it is as if he is teaching the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).' Then he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, inform me about Ihsan (excellence).' He said: 'That you worship Allah—or: that you worship Him—as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He sees you.' For all of that, we said: 'We have never seen a man more respectful to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than this one,' and he would say: 'You have spoken the truth, you have spoken the truth.' He said: 'Inform me about the Hour.' He said: 'The one asked about it does not know more than the one asking.' He said: 'You have spoken the truth.' He said that repeatedly. We have never seen a man more respectful to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than this one. Then he turned away. Sufyan said: It reached me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Seek him out.' But they did not find him. He said: 'This is Jibril; he came to you to teach you your religion. He has never come to me in a form except that I recognized him, except for this form.'"
