And the Narrations of Uthman ibn Affan (RA)

Hadith 4:19

'Abdullah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami narrated to me, Muhammad ibn 'Abdullah al-Ansari narrated to us, Hilal ibn Haqq narrated to us, from al-Jurayri, from Thumamah ibn Hazn al-Qushayri, who said: I witnessed the house [of 'Uthman] on the day 'Uthman was struck. He looked out upon them and said: "Call for me my two companions who incited you against me." They were called for him, and he said: "I adjure you by Allah, do you know that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Medina, the mosque was too small for its people, and he said: 'Who will purchase this plot of land with his own pure wealth, so that he may be in it like the Muslims, and he shall have something better than it in Paradise?' So I purchased it with my own pure wealth and made it available to the Muslims, yet you prevent me from praying two rak'ahs in it?" Then he said: "I adjure you by Allah, do you know that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Medina, there was no well in it from which sweet water could be drawn except for [the well of] Rumah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Who will purchase it with his own pure wealth, so that his bucket in it may be like the buckets of the Muslims, and he shall have something better than it in Paradise?' So I purchased it with my own pure wealth, yet you prevent me from drinking from it." Then he said: "Do you know that I am the provider of the Army of Hardship?" They said: "O Allah, yes." *** 'Abdullah narrated to us, my father and Abu Khaythamah narrated to me, they said: Mu'awiyah ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Za'idah narrated to us, from 'Asim, from Shaqiq, who said: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf met al-Walid ibn 'Uqbah, and al-Walid said to him: "Why do I see that you have become distant from the Commander of the Faithful, 'Uthman?" 'Abd al-Rahman said: "Inform him..." and he mentioned the hadith. As for his saying: "I stayed behind on the day of Badr," [he said]: "I was nursing Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), until she died. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had assigned me a share [of the spoils], and whoever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has assigned a share to, he has indeed witnessed [the battle]..." and he mentioned the hadith in its entirety to the end.
