"And O my people, who would help me against Allah?" That is: Who would protect me from Him, the Exalted, and ward off His wrath from me? The interrogation is for the purpose of negation; meaning, no one would help me against that.

"If I drove them away?" And distanced them from me, even though they possess such status and nearness to Allah, the Exalted. The discourse contains, as is evident, an intensification of the gravity of driving them away.

"Will you not then reflect?" That is: Will you persist in the state of ignorance you are in, and not reflect upon what has been mentioned regarding their condition, so that you may realize that what you are committing is far removed from correctness? It is said: Because this rationale is independent in a specific way—manifest in its indication of the necessity of refraining from driving them away—it was separated from the previous reasoning and initiated with "O my people."
