Tafsir
Verse range: 12:107
(Do they feel secure that there will come to them a covering [ghashiyah] of the punishment of Allah)—that is, a punishment that covers them and encompasses them.
The interrogation is one of denial, containing the meaning of rebuke and threat, as stated in al-Bahr. The discussion regarding the conjunction [the 'fa' in 'af-aminu'] and the placement of the interrogation in reality is well-known and has been mentioned more than once. The intent behind this punishment is that which encompasses both the worldly and the otherworldly, according to what has been said. In al-Bahr, there is that which is explicit regarding it being worldly, due to the contrast provided by His saying, Glory be to Him: (or that the Hour will come to them suddenly)—that is, unexpectedly, without any prior sign, which is the apparent meaning—(while they are unaware) of its coming, being unprepared for it.
