But if you do not bring him to me, no measure will there be [hereafter] for you from me, nor will you approach me."

Tafsir
Verse range: 12:60
(And if you do not bring him to me, there shall be no measure for you with me). This is a threat to them regarding the failure to bring him. The intent is: "You shall have no measure in the next instance, let alone an overflowing one."
(And do not approach me). That is: Do not approach me by entering my lands, let alone expecting kindness in receiving provisions or hospitality.
This is either a prohibition or a negation, coordinated on both interpretations with the jaza’ (the consequence of the conditional). It has been said: It is an isti’nāf (a new, independent sentence) on the first interpretation, so that the coordination of a performative (prohibition) upon an informative (negation/consequence) does not occur. The response to this is that such coordination is permissible, as a prohibition can function as a jaza’ (consequence).
In this there is evidence that they had the intention of returning time after time, and that this was known to him, peace be upon him. What is apparent is that what he did with them was by way of revelation (wahy). Otherwise, righteousness would have dictated that he hasten to his father and summon him. However, Allah, glory be to Him, willed to perfect the reward of Ya'qub in his trial, and He is the Accomplisher of what He wills in His creation.
