Tafsir of Ta-Ha 20:127

Surah Ta-Ha 20:127

ﱋ ﱌ ﱍ ﱎ ﱏ ﱐ ﱑ ﱒ ﱓ ﱔ ﱕ ﱖ ﱗ

And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.

"And thus do We recompense him who transgresses" — that is, and a recompense similar to that which conforms to the crime — "and does not believe in the verses of his Lord," rather, he denies them and turns away from them. The intent is to liken the general recompense to the specific recompense.

"And the punishment of the Hereafter" — whether absolutely or specifically the punishment of the Fire — "is more severe" than the punishment of the former [life], "and more enduring" — meaning, more lasting than it, or more severe and enduring than that, and than the punishment of the grave, or [more enduring] than both of them, and than the gathering in a state of blindness.
