"Go both of you to Pharaoh, for he has indeed transgressed."

It is narrated that it was revealed to Aaron while he was in Egypt that he should go to meet Moses—peace be upon them both. It is also said: his heart was inspired with that. It is further said: he heard of his arrival, so he went to meet him. It is possible that Moses went to Mount Tur, and they gathered there and were addressed together. It is also possible that this command came after Moses—peace be upon him—had returned from Mount Tur to Egypt and had met with Aaron—peace be upon him—who was coming toward him from Egypt.

Some have distinguished between this verse and the Almighty’s saying, "Go, you and your brother," by noting that the latter did not specify to whom they were to go, whereas this verse does. Others argue that the command here is specifically to go to Pharaoh, while the command there was to go to the general recipients of the call. Others state that Aaron was not addressed there, but he is addressed here. Still others suggest that the command there was for each of them to go individually, either explicitly or implicitly, whereas the command here is for them to go together, explicitly.

It is not hidden that some of these distinctions are subject to scrutiny. However, the difference is clear between this command and the command in the Almighty’s saying, which was addressed solely to Moses—peace be upon him—at first: "Go to Pharaoh, for he has indeed transgressed."
