Verse range: 23:25
"He is naught but..."—that is, he is nothing other than—"a man in whom is madness"—meaning insanity, or jinn who derange him; and for that reason he says what he says. "So wait for him"—that is, endure him, be patient with him, and await—"until a time," perhaps he will recover from what he is in.
This is based upon the escalation of their states in stubbornness and obstinacy, and their turning away from describing him—peace be upon him—with humanity (which they desire to favor as an argument) toward describing him with what you see, while they know that he—peace be upon him—is the most sound of people in intellect and the most grave of them in speech. It is, according to what has preceded, based upon the contradiction of their corrupt assertions. May Allah—the Exalted—slay them; how are they deluded?
