(46) An-Nur

(We have certainly sent down clear signs) — meaning, signs for everything that befits being made clear, whether of religious rulings and existential mysteries, or signs that are manifest in themselves. This is like an introduction to what follows it, and for this reason, the conjunction was not used here, unlike how the Glorified One used it in the preceding verse: "We have certainly sent down to you clear signs and an example from those who passed away before you." From the difference in the flow, the reason for mentioning "to you" there and omitting it here is known.

(And Allah guides whom He wills) — His guidance being through granting success [tawfiq] to contemplate them correctly and to reflect upon their meanings — (to a straight path) — one that leads to the reality of the Truth and to success in Paradise.
