Surah Ash-Shu`ara' 26:116

ﱜ ﱝ ﱞ ﱟ ﱠ ﱡ ﱢ ﱣ

They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned."

Ash-Shu'ara: (116) They said: "If you do not..."

(They said: "If you do not desist, O Nuh, from that which you are upon, you will surely be among those who are stoned.")

That is, [those] pelted with stones, as narrated by Qatadah. This is a threat of killing, as narrated by Al-Hasan. Ibn Abi Hatim recorded from Al-Suddi that the meaning is "among those who are reviled," on the basis that 'stoning' (rajm) is a metaphor for reviling, similar to [the word] 'stabbing' (ta'n). In Irshad al-'Aql al-Salim, it is stated that they—may Allah the Exalted fight them—said this toward the end of the affair.
