[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life?

(He said) i.e., Pharaoh said to Moses (peace be upon him) after the two of them came to him and conveyed what they were commanded to convey. It is narrated that they went to Pharaoh’s gate and were not granted permission for a year, until the doorkeeper said: "There is a man here who claims to be a messenger from the Lord of the worlds." Pharaoh replied: "Let him in, perhaps we may laugh at him." So, he permitted them, and they entered and delivered the message to him. Pharaoh recognized Moses (peace be upon him) and said to him at that moment: (Did we not raise you among us as a child?)
In another report, it is said that they came at night and knocked on the door. Pharaoh was alarmed and said: "Who is this knocking on my door at this hour?" The doorkeeper looked out at them and spoke to them, and Moses said to him: "We are messengers of the Lord of the worlds." The doorkeeper went to Pharaoh and said: "There is a madman here who claims to be a messenger of the Lord of the worlds." Pharaoh said: "Bring him in." So, he entered and said what Allah the Exalted has recounted.
The accursed one intended by his words (Did we not raise you...) and so forth, to show obligation [upon Moses]. The phrase (among us) is based on the assumption of a genitive construction, meaning "in our dwellings." (As a child) walid is on the pattern of fa'il in the sense of maf'ul (passive participle). It is applied to one whose birth was recent, although according to what al-Raghib says, it is linguistically valid for one whose birth was recent or remote, just as the word jana (harvest) is used for what has recently been plucked; once it matures, this name is dropped from it. Some say its indication of a recent timeframe comes from the hyperbolic nature of the form and the fact that the birth itself does not admit variation.
(And you remained among us for years of your life.) It is said: He remained among them for thirty years, then went out to Madyan and stayed there for ten years, then returned to them to call them to Allah the Exalted for thirty years, and he remained for fifty years after the drowning. It is also said: He remained among them for twelve years, then fled to Madyan after striking the Coptic man, where he stayed for ten years tending the sheep of Shu'ayb (peace be upon him), then eighteen years after marrying the daughter of Shu'ayb, totaling forty years. Then Allah the Exalted sent him, and he returned to them to call them to Him, the Almighty and Majestic. Allah the Exalted knows best.
Abu 'Amr read, in one narration, (of your life) with the mim made quiescent. The prepositional phrase is in the position of a state (hal) of (years), as is known in the description of an indefinite noun when it is moved forward.
