Surah Ash-Shu`ara' 26:181



ﳒ ﳓ ﳔ ﳕ ﳖ ﳗ ﳘ

Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss.

{ أَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُخْسِرِينَ }

(181) That is, do not diminish the rights of the people by shortchanging them. Perhaps the hyperbole derived from the construction is directed toward the prohibition itself, or perhaps the implication [of such a concept] is not taken into account, similar to what has been said regarding His saying—Exalted is He—: {Do not consume usury, doubled and multiplied}. In any case, the aforementioned prohibition contains an emphasis on the command that precedes it: {And weigh [with]...} the things to be weighed.
