"In a clear Arabic language."

The phrase "in a clear Arabic language" is connected to [the verb] "sent down" according to a group of eminent scholars. In this case, as stated by al-Shihab, it acts as a substitute for [the pronoun] "with it," by repeating the operative word. The placement of "in order that you may be..." and what follows before it is intended to highlight the importance of the warning, and to prevent the misconception that his (peace and blessings be upon him) being one of the mentioned warners is contingent upon the revelation being in a clear Arabic language.

It has been deemed preferable that the ba (in bi-lisan) denotes accompaniment (mulabasa), and that the prepositional phrase serves as a state (hal) of the pronoun in "with it." That is: He sent it down with it [the Spirit], while it was clothed in an Arabic language that is clear in meaning and manifest in its indication, so that they have no excuse remaining. It has also been said: [It means] in a language that makes clear to them what they need regarding the affairs of their religion and their worldly life, assuming that mubin is derived from the transitive verb abana. The first [interpretation] is more apparent.

It is permitted that the prepositional phrase be connected to "the warners." That is: "In order that you may be among those who warned in the language of the Arabs," namely Hud, Salih, Ismail, Shu'ayb, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Some have added Khalid ibn Sinan and Safwan ibn Hanzala (peace be upon them). This has been criticized on the grounds that it leads to the conclusion that the ultimate purpose of the warning is merely that he (peace and blessings be upon him) is among those who warned in the Arabic language—such as Hud, Salih, and Shu'ayb (peace be upon them). The corruption of this [view] is not hidden; for how could it be otherwise when the greatest calamities regarding the warning are those warned of by Nuh and Musa (peace be upon them), and the most effective deterrents in the hearts of the polytheists are those warned of by Ibrahim (peace be upon him), due to their affiliation with him and their claim that they are upon his religion (peace be upon him)?

Some have mentioned that the intent of this interpretation is: "You have warned them just as their early forefathers warned them, and you are not an innovator in this, so how can they deny you?" The truth is that the aforementioned interpretation [of the connection to 'warners'] is inferior to the previous one, but as for it being corrupt in meaning—as the critic implies—it is not.
