Tafsir of Ash-Shu`ara' 26:216

"So if they disobey you, then say: 'Indeed, I am disassociated from what you do.'"

The apparent meaning is that the subject pronoun in 'asawka (they disobeyed you) refers to those whom the Prophet ﷺ was commanded to warn, namely his kindred. That is: If they disobey you and do not follow you after you have warned them, then say: "I am disassociated from your work," or from what you do of calling upon another deity alongside Allah Almighty.

It is also possible that the pronoun refers to the disbelievers, who are implied by the context. It has also been said that it refers to those who followed him from among the believers; meaning: If they disobey you, O Muhammad, regarding the rulings and the branches of Islam after having believed in you and having witnessed your humility toward them, then say: "I am disassociated from what you do of sins." This means: Declare your lack of approval for that and your disapproval of them. Regarding this interpretation, it has been mentioned that if he ﷺ were commanded to be disassociated from them, he would no longer remain an intercessor for the sinners on the Day of Resurrection. According to interpretations other than this one, the verse is abrogated.

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded from Ibn Zayd that he said: The Exalted commanded him with this, then abrogated it, and subsequently commanded him to strive against them (Jihad). In Al-Bahr, it is stated that this was a period of reconciliation which was abrogated by the Verse of the Sword.
