ﱮ ﱯ ﱰ ﱱ ﱲ

[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?"

(He said) Pharaoh, upon hearing his reply, out of fear that something of it might take hold in the hearts of his people, (to those around him) from the nobles of his nation. Ibn Abbas—may Allah be pleased with both of them—said: They were five hundred men wearing bracelets, which were exclusive to kings. (Do you not listen?) to his reply? He intended by this to express astonishment at it and to disparage the speaker. This was because it did not correspond to the question, as he was explaining the reality of what was asked about, and because, according to his assumption—given the ignorance his people were in—it was not clear in itself due to the obscurity of the knowledge regarding the possibility or occurrence of what was mentioned, which is the reason for the need for the Necessary Existent by His essence. The accursed one exaggerated in signaling that the mentioned reply was unworthy of consideration, as he implied that their merely listening to it was sufficient to reject it and not accept it.
