Al-Qasas: (67) "As for him who repents..."

"As for him who repents" (i.e., from polytheism) "and believes and does righteous deeds" (i.e., combines faith with righteous action), "then it may be that he will be among the successful" (i.e., those who attain the desired objective with Him, the Almighty and Majestic, and who are saved from that which is to be fled from). The term "may be" (ʿasā) is used to denote certainty, following the custom of the noble, or it expresses hope from the perspective of the aforementioned repentant person, meaning: "Let him expect to succeed."

As for His saying, the Almighty: "As for him" (fa-ammā), it is said to be for the purpose of detailing what is summarized in the listener's mind regarding the clarification of the outcome of the polytheists—namely, what the state of those among them who repent would be—and to indicate that the subsequent information is predicated upon what preceded it. Thus, the verse is connected to what is adjacent to it.

Al-Tayyibi said: It is connected to His saying, the Almighty: "Is he whom We have promised a good promise..." The discourse concerning the partners is a digression for the purpose of mentioning the gathering [of them]. Al-Kashf refutes this, stating that the apparent meaning is that it is not connected to that. Rather, when He, the Glorified, mentioned the state of those upon whom the word had been justified, both the followers and the followed, He said—the Almighty, in His Majesty—urging them to desist: "As for him who repents from among them and believes." It is as if it were said: "What has been mentioned is their destiny; but as for him who repents, then it is otherwise."
