Al-Ankabut: (11) "And Allah will surely make evident those who..."

"And Allah will surely make evident those who have believed with sincerity, and He will surely make evident the hypocrites"—whether their infidelity involved causing harm or otherwise. The intended meaning of "knowing" here is recompense; that is, He will recompense them according to what they possess of faith and hypocrisy. It is as if the variation in addressing "those who have believed" and "the hypocrites" is for the sake of observing the rhythmic endings of the verses.

The apparent implication is that, based on the fact that hypocrisy emerged in Medina, the verse is Medinan, which supports what has been previously mentioned regarding the chapter being one of the exceptions. Perhaps those who maintain it is Meccan—due to the apparent general consensus that the chapter is Meccan, and because the persecution of believing Muslims was mostly prevalent in Mecca—would reject this, or they would argue that it is a matter of foretelling the unseen. So, contemplate this.
