And Lot—this is a conjunction referring back to Abraham, or alternatively to Noah. The discussion regarding the words of the Exalted, "when he said to his people," is the same as that in the preceding narrative.

"Indeed, you commit the immorality"—that is, the act that has reached the pinnacle of ugliness. The majority of reciters read it as A-innakum (أئنكم), indicating an interrogative of denunciation.

"Which no one from the worlds has committed before you"—this is a supplementary clause establishing the perfection of its ugliness. For the consensus of all individuals in the worlds to avoid it is solely because it is of that which sound natures feel disgust towards and noble souls recoil from. Abu Hayyan permitted the sentence to be a circumstantial clause (hal) relating to the pronoun in "you commit" (ta’tun), as if to say: "Indeed, you commit the immorality while being innovators of it, having not been preceded in it by anyone."
