Al-Imran: 29

(Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts") meaning: whether you hide what is in your hearts of inner thoughts, among which is the taking of disbelievers as allies. The breast is mentioned because it is the seat of the heart. (or reveal it) meaning: whether you disclose it among yourselves, (Allah knows it), so He will hold you accountable for it when you return to Him, and concealing it will not benefit you. The priority given to concealing over revealing has already been alluded to in terms of its secret.

(And He knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth): This is an instance of mentioning the general after the specific for the purpose of emphasis and affirmation. The sentence is a new statement, not conjoined to the response of the conditional clause.

(And Allah is over all things competent): This is an affirmation of the attribute of power after the affirmation of the attribute of knowledge, and through this, the aspect of warning is perfected. It is as if He, the Glorified, said: "Allah warns you of Himself," because He is characterized by an essential knowledge that encompasses all known things, and an essential power that encompasses all possible things. Therefore, do not dare to disobey Him or take His enemies as allies, for there is no disobedience—whether hidden or manifest—except that He is aware of it and capable of punishing for it. The use of the noun (Allah) in the place of a pronoun (i.e., saying "And Allah" instead of "And He") is for the reasons you have learned.
