Tafsir of Al Imran 3:74

(He selects for His mercy whom He wills) Al-Hasan said: It is Prophethood. Ibn Jurayj said: Islam and the Quran. Ibn Abbas said: It is the abundance of remembrance of Allah, the Exalted. The preposition ba (in bi-rahmatihi) is prefixed to the object being restricted, and it may also be prefixed to the one upon whom the restriction is placed. Some have organized this in verse, saying:

The 'ba' after the verb of selection frequently enters Upon that which they have restricted, and the reverse is also used and good.

The learned Imam, the Master, mentioned: "And Allah is the Possessor of great bounty."

Ibn Jubayr said: It means the abundant.
