Al-Rum: (2) The Romans have been defeated

(The Romans have been defeated) They are a great tribe from the descendants of Rumi ibn Yunan ibn Aljan ibn Japheth ibn Nuh, peace be upon him. It has been said: they are from the descendants of Yavan ibn Japheth. It has also been said: they are from the descendants of Reuel ibn Esau ibn Isaac ibn Abraham, peace be upon him. Al-Jawhari said: They are from the descendants of Rum ibn Esau mentioned above. They had a battle with the Persians during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in which the Persians defeated and overcame them.
