Verse range: 33:41
"O you who have believed, remember Allah" — in a manner befitting His Majesty and Exaltedness, through Tahlil (saying la ilaha illa Allah), Tahmid (praising Him), Tamjid (glorifying Him), and Taqdis (sanctifying Him) — "with much remembrance," covering the majority of times and states, as stated by more than one scholar.
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas that "much remembrance" means not to forget His Majesty, and this is also reported from Mujahid. It has been said: that He, the Glorified, be remembered by His Most High attributes and Most Beautiful Names, and that He be sanctified from what does not befit Him. According to Muqatil, it is to say: Subhan-Allah (Glory be to Allah), al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), la ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) in every state. From the Purified Household (may Allah be pleased with them), it is said that whoever says this thirty times has remembered Allah the Exalted with much remembrance.
In Majma' al-Bayan, it is narrated from al-Wahidi, with his chain of transmission to al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim, from Ibn Abbas, who said: Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Muhammad, say: Subhan-Allah, wal-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wallahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil-aliyyil-azim, in the number of what He knows, the weight of what He knows, and to the extent of what He knows. For whoever says this, six qualities will be written for him: he shall be written among those who remember Allah the Exalted much; it shall be superior to those who remember Him by night and day; it shall be a planting for him in Paradise; his sins shall fall away from him just as the leaves fall from a dry tree; Allah the Exalted shall look upon him, and whomever Allah looks upon, He shall never punish." Thus I have seen it recorded; so do not be heedless. Some have said: The reference for "much" is common usage ('urf).
