Tafsir of Al-Ahzab 33:47

"And give good tidings to the believers" is a conjunction linked to an implied [verb] that the context demands and the order of the discourse requires. It is as if it were said: "Observe the states of the people, and give good tidings to the believers." It is also permissible to consider it a conjunction linked to the preceding report, as a narrative linked to a narrative. Another opinion states that it is conjoined to it [the previous command] and rendered in the sense of a command, for it is in the meaning of "Invite them, being a witness, a bringer of good tidings, and a warner, etc."

"And give good tidings to the believers among them that they shall have from Allah a great bounty." This means an abundant gift. As narrated from al-Hasan and Qatadah, it refers to Paradise and what they are granted therein. This is supported by His saying—the Exalted: "And those who believed and did righteous deeds shall be in the meadows of the Gardens; they shall have what they wish with their Lord; that is the great bounty." It is also said that the meaning is a bounty over all other nations in rank and honor, or an addition to the rewards of their deeds by way of grace and benevolence.

Ibn Jarir and Ibn 'Ikrimah narrated from al-Hasan, who said: When the verse "That Allah may forgive you your past and future sins" was revealed, they [the Companions] said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have come to know what will be done for you, but what will be done for us?" Thereupon, Allah the Exalted revealed: "And give good tidings to the believers that they shall have from Allah a great bounty."
