Fatir: (25) "And if they deny you, then..."

"And if they deny you, then those before them already denied." [Meaning: From the insolent nations, so do not grieve over their denial of you.]

"Their messengers came to them." [In the position of a circumstantial clause (hal), according to what Abu al-Baqa’ said, either without the estimation of the particle qad or with its estimation. That is: Those before them denied, while their messengers had come to them.]

"With clear proofs." [Meaning: With manifest miracles indicating their truthfulness in what they claimed.]

"And with the Scriptures (al-Zubur)." [Such as the scrolls of Abraham, peace be upon him.]

"And with the enlightening Book." [Such as the Torah and the Gospel, based on the intent of differentiation. That is: some of them came with this, and some came with that; not based on the intent of synthesis, as if every messenger came with everything mentioned, which would necessitate that every messenger had a book—while the number of messengers is far greater than the number of books, as is well known. The implication of this is to prevent [the possibility of] exemption. It is also permissible that al-Zubur and "the Book" refer to one thing, and the conjunction is for the variance of the two designations, but that is far-fetched.]
