Verily, Satan is an enemy to you—a general and ancient enmity that scarcely ceases, and this is signified by the nominal sentence structure, the use of "to you" (lakum), and its precedence for the sake of emphasis—so take him as an enemy by opposing him in your beliefs and your deeds, and remain cautious of him in all your affairs.

He only calls his party—this is a confirmation of his enmity and a warning against obeying him, by alerting [the reader] that his purpose in calling his followers to pursue desires and incline toward the pleasures of the world is nothing but to entrap them and cast them into everlasting punishment, while they are unaware. Thus, the lam (in li-yakunu) is not one of outcome (denoting what happens regardless of intent); although Ibn Atiyyah claimed that it is.
