Tafsir of As-Saffat 37:156

This is a disjunction and a transition from rebuking and silencing them through what was previously mentioned, to challenging them with that which cannot possibly exist. That is to say: Rather, do you have a clear proof sent down from the heavens that the angels are His daughters?

Necessarily, such a judgment requires a basis—either sensory or rational—and since both are absent, there must be a transmitted proof.
